If you're living in Clermont-Ferrand and want to practice French in a friendly, supportive environment, this meet-up is for you! Join us for a friendly and interactive language practice where you can boost your speaking skills, learn new vocabulary, gain confidence in real-life conversations and meet fellow expats.

What is it?

⭐ Small group setting: We keep it intimate (6-8 people maximum) to ensure everyone gets a chance to speak and practise.

⭐ Real-life conversations: We focus on practical French that you'll use in your daily life here in Clermont-Ferrand.

⭐ Cultural exchange: Not only will you improve your language skills, but you’ll also learn more about the French culture and share your experiences as an expat.

⭐ Supportive atmosphere: Whether you're a beginner or more advanced, this is a safe space where mistakes are welcomed and everyone is encouraged.

The concept

My name is Laurie, I am a French teacher and founder of Frenchie Classes (online French classes for expats). I have been an expat for 8 years: in the UK, in Canada, and in Spain. I know what it is to be an expat, to adapt to a new country and culture, to learn the language to feel more independent in the everyday life, and I also know how challenging it can be.

In Spain, I lived in a small town in the region of Murcia. It was quite hard for me to meet fellow expats and create friendships. It was difficult because my Spanish was not great so bonding with natives was complicated. And I didn't really know how to meet other expats in this small town and region.

I understand how challenging it can be to settle into a new country, learn a new language and above all make new and meaningful connections.

As I have been back in Auvergne, my home region, for a year now, I would like to create in-person groups for expats to practise French in Clermont-Ferrand, and to meet people who are all in the same boat! Clermont-Ferrand can feel small and expats are less numerous than in other major French towns and cities. This is why I really would like to give you a chance to meet and share your experience in this beautiful town and region, while improving your French.

As expats, we all share similar challenges and experiences. Learning together fosters a sense of community, and we can support one another through the journey of mastering a new language.

How it would work

• Location: in a cafe in Clermont-Ferrand.

• Date and time: starting as soon as I have enough demands (hopefully before end of March).

• Duration: lessons would last 1 hour, once a week.

• Group size: 6-8 students max. More groups will be create if I get enough demand.

• Cost: around €15 per lesson and per person (would include the location, the lesson material, the activities I would prepare and maybe a drink/viennoiserie).

I am really excited about this new project and I really want to organise all that and help expats in Clermont-Ferrand to improve their French while creating new friendships. My objective is to start the groups before end of March.
